During my first semester in Cronkite News, I wrote a 1,400 word piece about alleged medical abuse in an ICE detention center in Eloy, Ariz. For this story, I interviewed multiple sources, and flew a drone for aerial footage of the detention center as well as the town's water tower. I learned more about visuals and how important they are to communication along with the written word. I'm immensely proud of this piece, which you can read here.
This story was my first piece for Cronkite News. I co-bylined this story with a peer of mine, and we worked to convey the urgency of the movements in the story. We jumped head first into the semester, and I learned how to turn a breaking story quickly.
